the summary of this article

The article explains to us that using machines such as baby scan machine is effective for us to learn languages. Since it shows us Japanese to be able to distinguish sound differences. For example, the author illustrated the example difference between L and R.

Most of the Japanese cannot distinguish these two sounds. Since there is no difference in Japanese these sounds. (same phoneme) However, once people were shown movement of these sounds, they could distinguish the difference within one hour. In other word, in their mind, these two sounds became different phoneme. Therefore, Japanese even became to be able to produce the sounds correctly.

For the reason illustrated in above, this kind of research might lead to advances for second-language learning.

In addition to this, there is a study showed that people could learn a language more easily when immersed in the language compared to the learning through the explanation of the language.

What Asia Can Learn From Philippines About English Education???

This article is showing that how Philippine has increased the people who could speak English.

The author claims that the most important thing to do to improve the people’s proficiency in English is that making English as a life communication tool or the things that we see every day. Let’s see the details about this !!

Generally speaking, people think that learning English in an early stage in life would be the most effective way to master it.

However, the author casted doubt on this point because, even though people in Philippine has low graduate rate of elementary school, many people are able to master the language.

Why does it occur???

People in Philippine are accustomed to the signs of English and broadcasting in English,

English and their language are spoken in the same time, radio in English.

Therefore, for people there, touching in English isn’t a subject, like most Asian countries are recognized, but a daily tool. Then, the author gave an example why Japanese and Korea could not master English as Philippines did. The author explained the reason like this. Philippine, the country where even after U,S, got out of their country, where public sighs are used in English utilized the opportunity of getting English as their weapon to live, I mean, to get a better life since it is a worldwide language. Compared to this country, when japan was ruled by the U,S, they saw U,S as terrible one and then, they were obeyed their requirement, but couldn’t utilize the opportunity to learn English like Philippine.

My opinion about this

I think the best teacher for us Japanese to imitate is Philippine where it is located in almost the same area in the world and has experienced same kind of experience.

The reason is obvious. Since Philippine could succeed to master English compared to other Asian countries dramatically, we should incorporate their beneficial ways to improve our English proficiency and to succeed in the world.
