1, Does making English as official language have impact on how company earn money??

In this article the author is trying to tell us that, since English became the center of global language mainly in market, trading, politics and so on, English is taking very important role in company’s income.
However, the author is alarming that, in current world situation, English are considered as a most important language.
By this, some people claim that if they know English, it is perfect and we don't have to learn another languages. However, it is really wrong idea for people to think like this.
Since, in the future, there will be a time when almost every people can speak English.
According to the author “If competence in English becomes a pre-requisite for working in business, native English speakers will no longer have the competitive edge they currently hold.”
What does this mean for us mainly Japanese??
The answer is easy. It is desirable making English as official language because people could learn both language at the same time mainly, new generation, young children. Of course. Other genarations too.
Doing that kind of policy allows us to succeed in the situation as the author of this passage had said. In other word, people can make a presence in the world market, since they can talk more than two Language. the companies all over the world want those people who are more competent than others.

It means that more competent in language you are, you would be chosen by those big companies.

you would be wanted to be hired by lots of famous companies.

Analitics of this article.

I think this article is providing good ground for us to think about English which overwhelming today's world. This article is discussing mainly future problems( in the situation where all people are competent in English, so it gives us a good opportunity to look at how future global language would look like since almost all the articles are only concerned about current situation.

2,Will it boost economic situation????

In this article, the author is supporting his opinion, making English as an official language in Japan, which would contribute to the Japan prospect in the world.

He gave an example of Singapore, a country where the English is one of their official languages. Because Singapore grew up dramatically and mikitani insists that it is because of people’s Competency of commanding English.

These days, he mentioned, in his company, lots of clients are from other countries and there is great demand of proficiency in English to success in the market.
Therefore, his idea is that Japan should make English as their offices language since it is a must to overwhelm the world.

I agree with his Opinion.

Japanese economy and political role are debasing since the global language became English. Lots of Japanese are not competent in English now so it would lead to the Japan's lower position in the world.

In addition, suggesting my opinion, the separation of field of study made it Japanese not to be good at foreign language. Most of Japanese people tend to be satisfied with learning one specific subject, for example, learning only engineering, is enough. However, watching foreign companies and countries, they don't have an idea like that, since they know that it would not lead to them to the success.

I don't know why they think like this, but for this problem, I think making English as one of the Official languages is crucial. Japanese people would realize how language is important to communicate, that is, to succeed at global level.

I think this resource is creditable one since it is from LinkedIn page, mikitani comment. Terefore, there is no false opinion or reasons about this page.

However, there are a few reasons to support his opinion, so if there are more information to support his opinion, the article would change to an attractive one.

Cons of English as the Official Language

I would like to discuss the examples of why english should not be the official language of Japan. Although as shown in past posts, making english the official language of Japan is beneficial in many ways. However.....

Another country which carries this issue is, believe it or not, America. America as a country, does NOT have an official language. This is most likely because of how it is not really important to that country to make it a official language. For America, it is probably because english is already spoken by most of the citizen.

This is not the case for Japan. For Japan, the main problem is mostly the idea that if english becomes the official language of Japan, part of education would be devoted to learning english, and may affect Japan's education system. As a result, it is feared that it may delay japanese education to children. Learning another language gives the learner a wide view to society, but each language also has a tight link to the culture in that country. A different language may cast unpredicted result on the culture.

Will making English as an official language mean that loss of culture in japan or in other countries???

In this article, the another is insisting that, if the English dominate the world, it would mean lots of literature in every country except those countries where English is their official language from the start. Because, if the English language dominates world publishing, very few translations except those from English to other languages will be commercially viable.

So, let's see why making English as a standard degrades literature. There are two big reasons for this.
Firstly, according to Melitz, "the tendency of competitive forces in the global publishing market to privilege the translation of English fiction and poetry into other languages for reading or listening enjoyment may damage the production of world literature and in this respect make us all worse off. "

Secondly, even if translators translate novels in other language to English, it cannot translate the implied meaning and exact meaning in the novels.

For the reasons listed before, in terms of literature and other kind of cultural things, it would degrade the country's culture.

opinion

I agree with this opinion in some parts. I think that dominance of English as world official language might degrades the literatures in non-English speaking country.  I think it would happen, since every people want to gain money by selling it. Countries such as US and UK will promote to translate their literature to other countries and it will lead to the disappearing of new prominent literature in non-English speaking country.

commments

I think this article is a little bit biotic, since it only mentions the aspect of literature. I think opinion like this topic, making English as official language, needs to mention opinion from various angle. Therefore, I think this resource have room for improving.

However, the opinion as itself, there is no doubt for his opinion. statements and reasons are clearly explained.

Will making English as an official language derive people’s identity???

summary

Tanzania decided to make their official language, Swahili, instead of English which is used and taught among lots of Tanzanian since the colonialization from British.

In the past, due to the tons of ethnics, it has experienced critical condition, split of the country, but thanks to the unifying Swahili as their language, or promoted citizens to be felt one unity.

However, some people are claiming it is horrible scheme, making Swahili as their official language, since it goes back the world trend which is making English as their official language to success in economy. Many Africans countries are doing that since it has many advantage.

All in all, nobody knows that whether it will be effective or not.

Opinion

I agree with this opinion. However, I think it would only apply in the countries where they experienced split among their country or colonized. In other word, in the places where they lost their identity as a country citizen. Therefore, I think doing the same thing in japan won't apply it. I think it would be meaningless since Japan never experienced split within their country. There are no concerns for Japan like Tanzania.
comments on this resource
I really trust this resource. The reason why I trust this source is because it is official and famous website.
In addition, it is explaining the opinion using historical facts, so it gives us logical explanation. History tells us how to cope with things in a proper way.
In addition to this, I thought it is very trustful since the opinion is based on not hypothesis but facts.

recent news story

News released recently is mainly talking about making English as official language In USA since, many people don't know, it's not official language yet.
The news released in 2016 are discussing how USA would change toward this.
In addition, in my feeling, articles published nowadays are explaining reasons more specifically illustrating the situation they are facing, using figures and looking back to the historical memories and so on.
Even though, in each news, compared country is different, but, they have a similarity ,showing clear reasons.
Then, about changing firms official language plan(which is the plan that I showed in previous blog posting) has been conducted in this year (Rakuten) and we can see the results of the plan that has been discussing from these new articles published recently.
As lots of firms started to make English as official language, it is preferable to make English as official language in a county. Since, more than 70 percent of people would be fluent in English due to the englishlization. It would make more benefits in research ranking, university ranking and so on.
Because the things that will be released are English so definitely lots of people will watch that publication and japan would be paid attention more compared to current situation.
Therefore, Japan's dignity would be regained by those these things that I wrote above.

a perspective from a company CEO why making english as their official language is important

Global Business Speaks English. (2012). Retrieved June 02, 2016, from https://hbr.org/2012/05/global-business-speaks-english
Companies which want to access in their field are changing their official language in their company. For example, Rakuten, and Fast Retailing, were among the first to switch. Now they are being joined by old-economy companies such as Honda and bridgeston. It is completely easy to understand why they are changing their official language in their company. The reasons are like this. English makes it easier to recruit global stars, reach global markets, assemble global production teams and integrate foreign acquisitions. Such steps are really important to companies in Japan, where the population is decreasing. It is very beneficial to promote human resources, to raise potential employee and so on.

all in all, adopting a common mode of speech isn’t just a good idea; it’s a must

I will give you some reasons to support this opinion.

First of all,

companies do not have to worry about the barrier of language and it will promote comrade communication all over the world. For example, if you go to the foreign office in your company, you don’t only have to worry about language barrier but also it will bring great profits to companies, since the communication allows us to talk perfectly what they want to do in their job. Likewise, if you want to buy or sell, you have to be able to communicate with a diverse range of customers, suppliers, and other business partners.

In addition to this,

better language comprehension gives employees more flesh information, which is vital to good decision making. For example, Swiss food giant Nestlé suceeded to vut redundant costs in factories and so on. Thanks to its enforcement of English as a company standard. In other word, to success at globalized world, you have to have an ability to speak in English. On the other hand, Companies that fail to devise a language strategy are essentially limiting their growth opportunities to the markets where their language is spoken, clearly putting themselves at a disadvantage to competitors that have adopted English-only policies.

Then, to accomplish it, at japan,

it is inevitable to make English as an official language in japan since people’s attitude toward English is really low. Therefore, to boost economy and to make an important role in the world politics, we have to consider to make English as official language in japan to take a pivotal part in the world.

current understanding

Our crrent understanding about this topic.
First of all, there are wide range of opposition about making english as a official language in japan.
since peopel are thinking that it would lose the culture of japan. they are claiming that english invade not only the japanese tradition, but also the people's identity as a japanese.
Thenthere are the things that we learned through learning about this topic.
for example, japanese people would gain the oppotunity to take an important role in the world economics and politics and so on. since you can communicate in english easily, it would allow you to say the idea that japanese people made up to the people all over the world.
